On a guided walking holiday you will join with other walkers on a set departure date or make up your own private group. We have developed a daily walking itinerary, every day doing a different walk in a different place, located in close proximity to our centrally located accommodation. Every afternoon we return to the same accommodation , making daily packing and unpacking unnecessary .
The guided walking holiday is led and hosted by an expert guide/host . Our guided walking holidays are limited to small numbers ( Max 8 clients- Min 4 clients ) and is a great way to meet other walkers and enjoy your holiday experience together. The guides are very knowledgeable about their local area and you will benefit from information relating to many different topics including but not limited to fauna and flora and culture.
All our walking holidays include accommodation, transfers, park and reserve entrance fees, some activities such as wine tastings and a private tourguide. We provide 4 breakfasts, 1 light lunch and 4 dinners . Three of the lunches are at own cost and except for water , drinks are not included We provide a full itinerary on our website for each guided walking holiday. Our walking holidays do not include flights to Cape Town.
We generally stay in a large house such as an Airbnb that can accommodate the whole group , we prefer to have a house all to ourselves rather than staying in a hotel, as we can then have our own space and privacy . We make sure that each room has its own bathroom . It is possible to have a single room but it does include an additional charge as our prices are set for per person sharing, either in twin or double rooms.
Breakfast : Full breakfast served daily : Includes coffee, tea, one fresh juice, eggs, bacon/sauasage, toast, muesli, yogurt, rusks, 2 fruits
Lunch: ( At own cost) We will be stopping for lunch at a local restaturant/ deli/ coffee shop depending on what is available. Light lunches served are usually sandwiches, salads, fish and chips , pizzas etc.
Dinner: Cape Town is known for its diverse cullinary offferings and your host will make sure your dinner is the highlight of your day, we will make sure to also have a fire going, a South African tradition. The fire creates a nice relaxing atmosphere to socialise around and to recap the wonderfull experiences of the day. We are happy to share the menu in advance, if you require to see what is planned for The Cape Townwalking holiday.
We need a minimum number of participants to run our group departures – this is usually four people. If we are not able to run a group tour, we will offer you an alternative or refund your deposit. Departures that are already guaranteed are shown as such.
Yes, we include all transfers from Cape Town International airport.
Yes, all nationalities are welcome to join our walking holidays in South Africa but our guides and host only speak English. We only provide airport transfers from Cape Town Interntational airport.
Please let us know if you are vegetarian and we will do our best to accommodate your needs, we will send you the menu before your holiday starts. There is usually a vegetarian option available for lunch at the restaurants we visit and most picnic and buffet-style meals will have lots of salads and veggies.
We try to accommodate all food requirements – please advise us of your requirements at time of booking. Although we endeavour to provide alternative options, it may be difficult in some restaurants ( lunches ) to determine if foods are 100% allergen-free. We advise that you take the same precautions that you would when eating out at a restaurant in general, and perhaps also take along snacks that you know are safe.
The daily distance can be viewed on the detailed itinerary for each day on the The Cape Town Walking holiday page.
It can happen that you do not feel up to walking on a particular day, you might be feeling under the weather or would just like to relax instead of going out. This is perfectly fine , we stay at one central accommodation , which means we return to the same place everyday on our walking holiday.
There are many reasons why it is beneficial to book early. It usually means the lowest air fares can be found, and that you can be more certain of a place on your chosen trip, especially if it’s one of our scheduled guided small group trip departures. Where a particular trip requires a minimum number of participants to reach guaranteed operational status, it is clearly in the best interests of all those wishing to take part to book as early as possible.
We understand that sometimes you may wish to join a trip close to departure time, and we will always do our best to enable you to book a last-minute walking holiday. Please note that we do not impose a late booking charge. However, higher air fares and restricted availability are more likely to be the result of booking late.
It is impossible to tell you exactly what the weather will be like for your chosen holiday on your specific travel dates. We always say that the Western Cape has four seasons in one day .We operate most of our holidays only during what is deemed to be the recognised best seasons for walking in the Western Cape, so not in Mid – Winter or Mid- Summer . The trip dossier outlines (wherever practical) weather conditions to be anticipated and a suggested packing list.
Your guide / host will be Herman Kielblock, a fully certified FGASA Nature and Marine guide and qualified CATHSETTA cultural tour guide for the Western Cape.
Once we have settled into our accommodation you will only need to carry your day pack or sometimes only a water bottle on our daily walks. Your luggage will be safely left in your private room for the duration of the walking holiday.
No, we do not follow a set hiking or slackpacking trail .On our walking holidays we will stay in a centrally located accommodation and every day we will drive out to do a different walk within a short distance from our base camp. In this way we can walk in different areas with different points of interest, be it fynbos, mountains, coastal, cultural. Every day is a new adventure filled with new and diverse scenery and information.
